Clean & Green Bricks
WHERE CAN I BUY CLEAN & GREEN BRICKS?
Consumer power increasingly decides what is being produced and in what manner. Many people and institutions in Nepal are brick consumers, from small house owners to the government to big multilateral aid projects. A few bilateral donors, International NGOs and the United Nations have already expressed interest in purchasing clean and brick bricks instead of bricks made with the sweat and blood of children (to mention only one of the issues in brick kilns).

The list below is a work in progress. It lists enterpreneurs against the certification criteria starting from the enterpreneurs in the green category .

67% AND ABOVE : EXCELLENT (GREEN)
It implies that the employer is very good in pursuing social responsibility in the areas of eradicating child labour, improving living and working conditions of the workers, maintaining hygiene, access to safe drinking water and toilets to the workers and environment-friendly approaches with no animal abuse.

34% TO 66% : IMPROVING
(ORANGE)

The entrepreneur has taken some positive steps such as establishment of child development centres, increased access to safe drinking water, reducing child labour etc. to improve social responsibility but needs to fulfill other criteria to move on to Green category.

LESS THAN 33%% : WORST CATEGORY (RED)
Entrepreneurs have little or no desire to change. They most probably employ child labourers, bonded labourers, practice animal abuse and there is no awareness of environmental impact of brick kilns.
